[Sent 10 June 2008] All, Still no RADAR, but we do have some preliminary optical data for you to look at to get a sense of the area and some of the flooding. I grabbed the MODIS-Today 250m jpegs (both true and false ir) and made worldfiles and projection files for them. Then I converted them to proper GeoTIFFs. I have June 1 (before) and June 10 (after). Rather cloudy today but you can see some change, especially in the false color. These are all available here: ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/ersc/batzli/floods/June_2008/ If I added your name to this list since "update 1" you can also find update 1 at the link above. From Scott Bachmeier we get this: >>> Here's a comparison of "before" (01 June) and "after" (10 June), >>> using 250m false color images from the SSEC MODIS Today site: >>> >>> http://tinyurl.com/3t7y93 >>> >>> Water appears darker in these false color images, so flood-swollen >>> rivers tend to be a little more obvious in the "after" image >>> (especially over far southwestern WI and far northwestern IL). Pesky >>> cumulus clouds tended to mask the areas north of Madison, where some >>> of the more noteworthy flooding has taken place. >>> >>> Here is the NWS precipitation analysis for the 7-day period ending on >>> 10 June -- rainfall was more that 8 inches above normal (or greater >>> than 600% of normal) for that particular 7-day period: >>> >>> http://tinyurl.com/492v6w >>> >>> -- Sam p.s. some other resources of note: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~floods/index.html (Dartmouth Flood Observatory -- not yet showing Wisconsin, but probably will soon) http://nmq.ou.edu/ (Rainfall estimates )
