[Sent 9 June 2008] Thanks to all who have offered to help or otherwise get involved with the current community effort to map inundated areas of Wisconsin and surrounding areas. (If you would prefer not to receive these updates, or have someone for me to add, let me know.) Chris Diller (GIS Coordinator for Wisc. Dept. of Military Affairs / Wisc. Emergency Management) activated the International Charter last night through Brenda Jones of EROS-USGS. The bounding box request for radar acquisitions is large. It comprises the southern third of our state with 30 of our 72 counties designated state disaster areas, with many escalating to federal disaster status soon. This is the current box: UL -91.5000, 44.3167 LR -87.6667, 42.4000 When data are acquired and posted, I will let you know what it is (ALOS/PulSAR? RADARSAT-2? other?) and where to find it. I'm attaching the non-disclosure statement that you should read if you intend to download and work with the data. I'm also attaching a 72 hr rain total graphic. FYI: Regarding optical imagery: Skies over Madison are clear at the moment (10am, June 10) but there are clouds over Milwaukee. Landsat 7 (degraded) passes over Milwaukee and the eastern third of the state today at about 11:30am (path 23). We are hoping for some good MODIS imagery today (11:50-55am pass). (check http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/modis-today for status). I do not know if the Charter covers SPOT imagery but I assume it does. The next 16 chances for Landsat over Wisconsin do not look very promising and are as follows: June 10: L7 Path 23 (degraded) June 11: none June 12: none June 13: none June 14: L5 Path 27 June 15: L7 Path 26 (degraded) June 16: L5 Path 25 June 17: L7 Path 24 (degraded) June 18: L5 Path 23 June 19: none June 20: none June 21: none June 22: L7 Path 27 (degraded) June 23: L5 Path 26 June 24: L7 Path 25 (degraded) June 25: L5 Path 24 Full calendar here: http://www.ersc.wisc.edu/resources/Satellite_Schedules/sched.php?year=2008 -- Sam Dr. Sam Batzli, WisconsinView Director Environmental Remote Sensing Space Science & Engineering Center 1225 W Dayton ST, RM 1215 University of Wisconsin - Madison Madison, WI 53706 Voice 608-263-3126 Fax 608-262-5974
